Beat the Heat

Safety Sandra

With temperatures rising above 100 degrees, we could see an epic heatwave sweep through the metroplex this summer. Don’t let the heat ruin your summer fun! Safety Sandra is here to keep you safe with these summer safety reminders.

  1. Watch out for hot surfaces –  Hot surfaces, especially around the water features, may harm little feet on summer’s warmer days. Wear water shoes so your little tike can run and play their heart out!
  2. Sunburn central – When it’s hot, UV rays can be unforgiving. Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen. Use whatever SPF works for you, but we recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen for maximum protection from UVA and UVB rays. If sunscreen isn’t enough, throw on a swim shirt or long sleeve shirt. Your skin isn’t the only thing that needs protection – your eyes are sensitive to bright sunlight too! A hat and sunglasses will help keep you protected on summer’s brightest days. When you plan your day, keep in mind that UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  3. Hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE – When you feel yourself begin to get thirsty, you should have consumed water already. If you’re headed outside, plan on drinking a bottle of water before you venture outdoors. Drink water constantly through the day. We recommend drinking water at least every 20 minutes during your time in the Park. To prevent heat stress and heat stroke, adults and children should stay hydrated when outside on hot and humid days; i.e. summer in Texas.
  4. Creepy Crawlies – Summer can bring out some pretty annoying pests. Luckily, the Park uses an all-natural spray which includes lavender and rosemary oil to keep the mosquitos away. It doesn’t hurt to keep bug spray in your summer safety toolkit to protect you from creepy crawlies that can be a bother during summer months.
  5. Keep an eye on ‘em – We love sharing the Park with kiddos! Keep close watch as they run through the fountains, play ball on the lawn and climb their way through the Children’s Park. We want every Park goer to be safe, and we never want you to miss a moment of fun!
