Stuff Your Tummy

David Lee

When you line up a row of food trucks for a party at Klyde Warren Park, you have to have a pizza option.

Yummy Pizza serves up 8-inch personal pies Wednesday through Sunday at the Park. Stuffers (Stromboli-like creations) are also "hot" items. In fact, according to Yummy Pizza owner Louie Khalaf, the Chicken Parmesan Stuffer has outsold pepperoni pizzas for the last three months.

While Louie loves serving awesome food, he says his favorite part about setting up at Klyde Warren Park for the past four years is the people. “We love the people at the Park,” he says. “We love the organization that runs the Park. They are a class-A organization, and that’s always a big draw to any establishment.”

He says the Park attracts visitors from not just other parts of Texas, but from many other states and other countries as well. “It mixes Uptown with Downtown, so the location of the Park is phenomenal,” Louie adds. “You cannot duplicate that anywhere else in Dallas. Nothing matches Klyde Warren Park.”

Louie has lived in other parts of the country and loves talking to out-of-state visitors about the differences in Dallas and other things to do in the Dallas area. He loves being within walking distance of so many unique attractions in the Arts District such as the Dallas Museum of Art, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and the Nasher Sculpture Center.

“I feel like I’m in New York right in Times Square,” he says about the Park atmosphere. “You see people here from everywhere—France, Italy, Russia; you see people from Japan, India, Pakistan. If people are here in Dallas, they usually come to the Park. It’s an awesome thing.”

The Yummy brand is expanding, with a Yummy Spiedies food truck being added to the East Lawn. The menu will also feature pizza and stuffers, but will also bring Philly cheese steak sandwiches, Greek salads, gyros and an international favorite—grilled kabab sandwiches.

Food Truck Alley on the west side of the park is already full, so the Spiedies truck will lead the expansion on the east side. Louie says all the food truck owners and operators treat the atmosphere as one big party.

“We are like a big family,” he says “We all know each other and help each other any way possible. There are a lot of good people out here.”
