Klyde Warren Park Awarded LEED® Gold Certification

DALLAS  – Klyde Warren Park has earned LEED Gold certification in the New Construction category from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The park contains a host of sustainable features, including solar panels, high-efficiency glass, a geothermal cooling system, low water-usage irrigation and LED lighting fixtures.

“Sustainability is part of Klyde Warren Park’s DNA and was a critical piece of every decision during the design and construction phase, as well as our current operations,” said Tara Green, president of Klyde Warren Park. “This certification marks another great milestone for Klyde Warren Park, and we are very proud to join many of our LEED-certified neighbors with this award.”

Klyde Warren Park is also a finalist in Urban Land Institute’s Urban Open Space Award, which celebrates successful public destinations that have revitalized their surrounding communities. The park is one of five projects around the country selected, and will host the award jury in September. The 2014 winner will be announced at the ULI Fall Meeting in New York City in October.

The design and construction team involved in the LEED certification of the park includes Bjerke Management Solutions, WARE Architecture Studio, Henderson Engineers, Inc., Thomas Phifer and Partners, The Office of James Burnett, Jacobs Engineering, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., Schmidt & Stacy Consulting Engineers, Inc., and The Johnson Studios.

Klyde Warren Park maintains a sustainability program that promotes environmentally-friendly strategies throughout the 5.2-acre green space. These systems also include high-efficiency mechanical equipment, low water-use plumbing fixtures, heat island effect reduction, storm water control and filtering, and indoor air quality improvement inside Savor and Relish, the park’s restaurant and to-go burger window.

LEED certification recognizes projects around the globe for best-in-class sustainable building strategies and practices. To receive certification, projects must satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve each level. Klyde Warren Park achieved LEED Gold certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
