Chapter 1: This Isn't Your Average Book Club

Lindsey LeJeune

Imagine a beautiful day in the Park. You’re sitting under a tree with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. The author of that book is a local Dallasite and you are listening to them share their personal experiences about writing this particular book.

Klyde Warren Park and The Wild Detectives present you with the Locals Only Book Club – where you can have a glass of wine and meet local Dallas authors!

“The Wild Detectives has built a community of readers and writers we treasure, some of who happen to be award-winning authors,” said Lauren Smart, freelance journalist and programming enthusiast at The Wild Detectives. “When Klyde Warren Park asked us to be a literary partner, we jumped at the chance to introduce some of our favorite Dallas-based novelists, memoir writers and poets. These events are one-of-a-kind book clubs. You'll have your wine and your discussion, but you'll also get to hear from the authors themselves in an incredible location.”

Andres de la Casa Huertas adds, “We’re very excited about helping Dallas citizens to be more aware of the great literary talent this city has, so they can add literature creation as another reason for their local pride.”

The Wild Detectives is passionate about cultivating the literary community in Dallas. Bringing authors to the people in a place like Klyde Warren Park will create a home for this budding group. Each featured book and author have been carefully selected, and you can pick up featured books at The Wild Detectives prior to Locals Only meetings. Locals Only will meet monthly in the The Dallas Morning News Reading and Games Room from 6–7 p.m.
